Meet Dr. Samaniego
Born in Los Angeles and raised in Madera, Dr. Samaniego’s story is one of dedication, empathy, and unwavering commitment to her community. As a child, her sensitive and caring nature was evident, and with encouragement from her parents, who were immigrant farm workers, she set her heart on becoming a physician. By seventh grade, the decision was made; she would dedicate her life to helping others.
Dr. Samaniego’s journey was shaped by inspirational figures, including her amazing counselor, Matilda Torres, and the strong women who surrounded her. Her path was clear: to serve in primary care and aid underserved communities, a reflection of her own family’s experiences. Staying with Camarena Health was a natural choice—it’s her community, and every day, she’s grateful for the chance to make a difference in someone’s life.
Married with two children, Dr. Samaniego balances her demanding role as a physician with family life. Their daily conversations about helping others and making meaningful contributions keep her grounded and inspired. Her son’s curious question, “Who did you help today?” is a testament to the values she embodies.
Dr. Samaniego’s empathy is not just professional; it’s personal. Diagnosed with a salivary gland tumor, she had to pause her studies to navigate the daunting path of being a patient. This experience deepened her understanding and empathy, enriching her ability to connect with those she serves.
Among her notable contributions is her work with the Reach Out and Read program at Camarena Health. Since 2002, this program has been pivotal in promoting early literacy among children aged 6 months to 5 years. Through guidance, support, and the simple yet profound act of giving a book, Dr. Samaniego and her colleagues help ignite a love for reading in young minds.
