Recently, Camarena Health had the honor of partnering with Make-A-Wish to bring a special wish to life for a truly resilient local child, Jocelyn. Our teams joined hands to arrange a festive Hawaiian-themed send-off party at our Tesoro Viejo Wellness Center, where attendees showed up in their favorite Hawaiian shirts, bringing an atmosphere of joy and support for Jocelyn and her family.
At just eight years old, Jocelyn was diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia. Her health journey began when she displayed flu-like symptoms and a yellowish complexion, a condition that rapidly escalated, leading to an emergency room visit. Unfortunately, subsequent tests and examinations confirmed the leukemia diagnosis. Jocelyn began chemotherapy immediately and, thankfully, she is now in remission and doing considerably better.
Jocelyn is a delightful and creative child. Her interests range from playing with dolls and dressing up as a princess to outdoor activities like bike riding and playing Hide ‘N Seek with her family. When indoors, she’s drawn to the world of arts and crafts, where she channels her creativity through drawing, painting, and coloring. Jocelyn also has a fondness for unicorns, the color blue, pizza, and snacking on Goldfish.
When asked about her greatest wish, Jocelyn didn’t hesitate. She wished to embark on a trip to Hawaii with her family, an experience she had never had, having never traveled outside of California. The anticipation of playing on the beach and swimming with dolphins filled her with excitement.
On June 1st, 2023, Camarena Health Foundation, along with the Tesoro Viejo community, hosted the send-off party for Jocelyn at Camarena Health Tesoro Viejo Wellness Center. Our staff and community members gathered to present Jocelyn with her favorite food – pizza – and gifts for her trip. The event stood as a testament to our collective spirit and the power of community support.
