At Camarena Health, we’re committed to finding innovative solutions that meet the needs of our community. One such initiative, our Grocery Store Tours, was developed from the direct feedback of patients struggling to make healthy food choices for their families. Led by health educator Cindy Hernandez, these tours provide participants with a unique opportunity to learn about nutrition right where it matters most—at the grocery store.
Sparked by conversations with patients, Cindy crafted a program that makes nutrition education interactive and practical. Participants are guided through local grocery stores by nutrition experts who help them understand how to select healthy options and dispel common food myths. With each tour, patients receive valuable insights into label reading, portion control, and how to balance their meals while also receiving a gift card to help them apply what they’ve learned.
Hometown Hero: Cindy Hernandez
Cindy Hernandez, our hometown hero, has been the driving force behind this transformative program. Despite personal challenges, Cindy remained dedicated to piloting the first tour at Rancho San Miguel, ensuring families walked away with the tools they needed for better long-term health. Cindy’s passion for community wellness is evident in her hands-on approach, and her efforts have empowered participants to make confident, informed decisions about their nutrition.
Our Grocery Store Tours seek to empower our patients in discovering nutritious foods and feeling confident in their selections.
