As Camarena Health continued to hire and increase recruitment efforts in 2022 we also remained focus on ensuring our healthcare workforce had the skills and compassion needed to provide the best patient experience. After the pandemic, patients were walking through our doors needing much more than just care. They were dealing with financial struggles, loss of life, trauma, and lack of resources. We knew we had to strengthen our staff’s communication skills and understanding of some of the challenges patients might face when coming to us for care. Camarena Health launched our Patient Experience Training Series and had sixteen staff from all different departments including providers, front and back support staff, and administration complete a train-the-trainer program through the Institute for Healthcare Communication‘s (IHC) called The Empathy Effect: Countering Bias to Improve Health Outcomes. We launched our internal team of facilitators to conduct this training for all employees which included interactive modules and real-life scenarios.
Our Patient Experience Training Team is working to launch additional training related to empathy and communication skills while continuing to support trained employees with tools and resources.
